For the classy man

...I really don't think there's anything to say, besides, Blu. Is. Dope. Here's a couple old mp3's that I dug up. Enjoy.

Blu - The Classy Man

Blu - Departing Flights

TweakTweak

So I just tweaked the blog a little. I put the entire Best Of Hip Hop section into a scroll box. Tell me if I should keep it, drop me a comment, or let me know in the chat box. I wanna know what you kids think! If you don't like it I'll just change the coding!

This is not [Artoficially] flavored

Artofficial - Fist Fights and Foot Races

1. K33
2. Big City Bright Lights
3. Skunk Ape
4. Eyes Of A Stranger
5. Too Nasty
6. Gone
7. Clockwork

9. Remember The Days
10. Rewind
11. Word Bending
12. Architekt
13. Sound Check On Saturn
14. Big City Bright Lights (Shin-Ski rmx)

Something tells me that Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop are meant to be together. If you don't believe me, then just look at these guys. Artofficial is very new, this is their debut album, but I mean, man this is some of the jazziest stuff I heard, and along with that their lyrics are bangin. These cats can really rhyme. These guys are also a live band such as, The Roots, and Crown City Rockers/Mission. Look out for Big City Bright Lights, Rewind, Remember the Days, Eyes of a Stranger, Too Nasty, Word Bending, and Sound Check On Saturn (live instrumental). Don't sleep on this.

So just heard of these guys today over at Musical Schizophrenia, and I just felt that they should be on my blog. I'm still in the process of really listening to it, but off the back, they sound pretty good, worthy of a download. Apparently they're from Sweden. Their sound is jazzy, and low key. Their rhymes are pretty tight, mostly about drinking, smoking, and chillin, but I just need a little more time to really listen to they lyrics. Check it out, and drop me a comment if you like it. I like to hear your opinions.

Sorry if the tracks are out of order, that's how I downloaded it.

Transformers dos

So everyone knows how amazing Transformers the movie was. Well here's the latest on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen...
"We're going to explore the background of The Fallen — the main villain of the movie — as well as expand on the 'Reign of Starscream' story that we're doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be the next movie starts out with just tons of action and there's obviously going to be a lot of questions, so we're hoping to answer some of those beforehand."
I'm excited to see what the second installment has in store for us! Can't wait!

Props to JayJay from The Morning Tilts for the heads up!

  24. Album Outro
Binary Star consists of One Man Army (now One Be Lo) and Senim Silla. They hail from Michigan. Hands down, this is one of the best Hip Hop albums ever created. Masters of the Universe is the mastered version of their first album called Water World (1999). Although these two masterful emcees broke up a while ago, they still pursue solo careers, and occasionally come together to do shows, as they have recently. One Be Lo is the most successful of the two, with releases such as S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. (very good album) and his most recent The R.E.B.I.R.T.H. Senim released an album called The Name, The Motto, The Outcome, but it wasen't too popular. To me they preform best together, they are like Q-Tip and Phife Dog from ATCQ. Lyrically, these two are skilled, extremely skilled, they spit some of the best rhymes I've ever heard.
"Bio-hazardous agent on Sillas airborne
Infectuous rhyme lectures spit quick and effective
Dangerous, lethal languages of slang could kill
Murder he wrote, an assassin would remain my skill
Senims a rough son of a gun keep razors under my tongue
Strike with enough force to puncture a lung
Im lyrically harmful, literally speaking
Emcees Im proud beatin, demeanin and ill treatin
Get introduced to mines and meet your demise
I despise rap guys and all they whack ties
Cause in my eyes, all men are not considered equal
Especially if you ain't one of Binary's people"
They are hands down, the best duo to make an album. I have no favorite song on this album...simply because the whole album is amazing. Certain songs show more skill than others such as KGB, which features 6 other artist such as Elzhi, and J.U.I.C.E, Masters of the Universe, which shows the chemistry between Senim and One Man Army, Fellowship with the Athletic Mic League, Honest Expression, Conquistadors...who am I kidding? The whole album is amazing. Download it if you don't have it.

The KnuX

So my man Matty C shot me an e-mail earlier with this song from The Knux, two brothers from New Orleans (like Jay Elec!). This is their second single its called Bang! Bang! Their first single was called Cappuccino. Check the tracks out, I recommend it! They remind me of Outkast...a lot. They're coming out with an LP called Remind Me In 3 Days, I'll be keeping you posted on that!

MF Doom + Flying Lotus = Bangin' Mashup

Got this from the Musical Schizophrenia team. Good stuff guys!

MF Doom + Flying Lotus - My Favorite Ladies/Litemeter

Top 5 most lyrically consistent emcees of today (according to The Trolley Stop)

When I say consistent, I mean that these emcees come correct on every track they are featured on. Everything they say makes sense, rhymes, and flows with the beat without breaking it up.

#5: Double K (of PUTS)

#4: Blu

#3: Lupe Fiasco

#2: Nas

#1: Black Thought

Black Thought

I don't know about you, but I love Black Thought, and The Roots. Black Thought is probably the only emcee to ALWAYS come with bangin lyrics. No matter the beat, no matter the place, or time, Black Thought has stayed on point no matter what. He's hands down the most consistent emcee out there. I'm patiently waiting for a solo album...but for now, here's a song he was recently featured on.

Muja Messiah ft Black Thought - Give It Up

Izza Kizza? What??

16. Me & Keesha (Boy Meets Girl)
17. Testimonial
18. PUSH
19. Outro
20. Georgie Porgie (Bonus)
I think I've already said this, but I'm not one for mixtapes...but this one just caught my attention with its unusual album art. I was pretty sceptical in the beginning. This guy is called Izza Kizza...hes a new addition from Timbaland, and might I add, hes pretty good. Something tells me that the fact that he's teamed up with Timbaland, he's gunna come with some well produced tracks in the near future. To tell you the truth this guy really reminds me of Busta Rhymes, with his unusual, quirky style, lyrics, and flow...if you like Busta I'm pretty certain you'll like Izza, check him out, I think it's worth the download.

Props to Jay from The Morning Tilts for recommending this to me, and also to Smokeyyy at That Real Ish for emailing this to me.

I know it's a little different from my usual style of music, I normally wouldn't think to download this, but since 2 people recommended this, I decided to give it a chance...hey you gotta be able to try new things right? Drop me a comment after you listen to this, I'd like to know what you guys think of him.

This is a 2003 release for hungry fans after the O.S.T. album release in 2002. The duo took a slight intermission for Thes One to pursue his solo album which was released in 2007 (if I'm not mistaken, the album is called Lifestyle Marketing). This album is a very good add to the collection, to me it seems as if it's a continuation to O.S.T, with its chill beats and samples. My personal favorite song on this release is Yield, the beat is very smooth and relaxing. Double K and Thes One remind their listeners of their musical skills with this project. They really weren't kidding about calling their music "musical dope." I'm addicted.

"The people made a name for themselves, long time ago, rock this shit, the showtime, one rhyme ago"

Enjoy the show

This song is the unreleased version of Action figures by The Cool Kids, but with a different title; Enjoy The Show. Same lyrics, different beat. Enjoy.

The Cool Kids - Enjoy The Show

P.S. - I had this before anyone! Just thought I'd let you know that haha.

"Arriving straight with gentlemens game"

So one thing that The Trolley Stop is trying to do is bring actual interviews with the artists that are being reviewed and supported on the site. I've been working on this for the past couple days, and I think now it's the right time to share it with you all. I'm pretty excited about this. I've been communicating with one of the most intellectual and motivated emcees out there today. I am proud to present to you, Trolley Stop Entertainment's very first interview with the one and only Son of Ran.

Awesome, okay first I'd like to thank you for this opportunity, and that you've definitely been one of my favorite artist's for a while now, so this is a big thing for me haha.

To start off the interview, for those who are unfortunate, can you explain who you are and what you do?

- Whattup world? My name is Randy Tolentino and many people know me as the Son of Ran. I aim to set an example of a strong believer in God, a faithful husband to my beautiful wife Khristine, a good son, a loving brother, a kuya, a cousin... In my spare time I'm an emcee. I rep Sky City, Messanger Music fams, PnoyApparel, along with Orisue and Acrylick clothing. Basically I get an instrumental from any one of my many producers, I sit there, black out... and wake up with an album. I write and record all songs out of my crib, based on the life and experiences we go through.

So I read that you were brought up in Japan, how was that? Do you feel that it was a positive experience in your life?

- Oh yes, definitely. Being raised in Japan was such a benefit for myself and my family as well. It took me out of San Diego during my adolescence, a time when SD was going through a lot of chaos and gang violence. And living in a smaller community meant developing a healthier relationship with my immediate family. I was there for 7 years total... It was a great experience.

How long have you been into Hip Hop? And how long have you been writing rhymes?

- Hip hop was in us since the early 80's. I was born in the same year the Gorilla put a fist up (1980). Beginning at the age of 4, I spent long afternoons trying to memorize artists like LL Cool J, RUN DMC, Beastie Boys - later turning to NWA, Eazy E, House of Pain, Souls of Mischief, Bone, and Pac... any sorta 'rap'. Like most artists, I ran the gauntlet of elements going from 'breakdancing' in middle school, to graffiti in high school. It wasn't until I moved back to the states for college in 1999 that I officially began writing rhymes. Seeing my cousin John and his crew at the time (Young Guns/Dope Poets Society) really sparked the passion in me. Things haven't been the same, since.

What was your first bought Hip Hop album as a kid?

- The first album I bought? Haha well I didn't have money until my later years in elementary... it must've been Beastie Boys' License to Ill... with the sketching of a plane's tail on the front. "Here's a little story/ I got to tell about three bad brothers/ you know so well..."

When you pick up a pad and pen, what influences your writing?

- I truly get all of my inspiration from several components. My God, my Life, love, my future, and the collective human experience. When I examine these particular aspects, my approach is endless and my writing uncovers its own destiny. It's something I almost have no control over

I just have to give it time and a beat to get me goin.
Most of the time, the music will hollar at you. The streets call you out. That's why when I met the Messangers and heard their sound for the very first time, it was over. I told their business manager Brandon - call it an album, consider it cake.

If you were able to collaborate with anyone in the music industry, who would it be?

- I always felt like I wanted a real shot with Genelec and Memphis Reigns. A real album. Other than that, shoot... I'd humbly ask Planet Asia to cut a gem with me (his voice is the illest), also Pep Love because his flow is impeccable. I'd also wanna get down with John Legend for soulful purposes. Who else... Typical Cats!

What is currently in heavy rotation in your iPod/computer?

- Damn, I recently bought an MP3 player and started uploading several albums to it, including: Jason Mraz, Colby Caillat, Flo Rida, Maroon 5. I always have Aesop Rock in the ride, as well as Nas...

In addition to the Street Runners album, do you have any other projects you are working on that you want to announce? Any new solo stuff for craving fans?

- I'm currently finishing the Incoming Message album with the mighty Messangers Music fam. That album is due to drop at the very end of summer or early fall for all the back-to-school cats dying for ill music. I also have a couple of shirts coming out from PnoyApparel.com, with some super-fresh designs... They're gonna be sick, I'm excited for that.

Aside from this album, I don't plan on doing a lot of writing/recording in 2008. I'm getting married in December so I'm focusing my attention on our planning. In addition to the wedding, I'm applying for HomeLand Security...

I’ve always wondered, what made you choose the name Son of Ran?

- Haha back when I used to write (graff, tag) I used the name R-son... or Arson. When I began emceeing in my freshman year of college, I manipulated it Ranson. Finally, switching it to Son of Ran. To me, it meant that if I were to take this music career seriously, I had to treat it as if it were my own seed; my own son. I'd have to teach it to be righteous, progressive, and clean music. And from there I developed my approach in hip hop.

And with that I would like to say, once again, thank you for the opportunity, it means a lot to me and your fans. Any last thoughts or shout outs?

- Aye man, thank YOU. I never take this for granted and I appreciate the cats who reach out and try to grasp what I do via music and artistry. I'd like to give special thanks to God, my parents, my siblings Fred and Arrin, Mel and Glenn, Linds and Marlon, my SD cousins and the extended fams. The Greatest of my love goes out to my beautiful and understanding wife. Thanks to the Dancel family, Leary family, Lonzons, Carinos... Rossi and Dixie my babies, the Messangers (Brandon, Mark and Jojo), F. Joachim, Evade beats, Genome, Cypher Ops and DJ Virus forever, Stat King Cole, the Maestronaut, PnoyApparel fams, Orisue Crew, Acrylick Clothing...

Special shout goes out to Electric Shockers, Ryo, IllWill, Ed, Phil, Mark, Jeff, Dean... Genelec and Memphis Reigns, Rob Grimes, Yung Lyricist, Sky City Familia, Full Clips DJ's... Manny Pac! Jah Congo, Limachips.com, HeavyRotation with Marlino, my boy Von, and last but not least, my boy Gil for making the best damn clam chowder I'll ever have in this life.

If I forgot you, no I didn't... Get the album ya'll! Incoming Message 2008.... and I'm out.

That was some brief soul with Son of Ran, I would like to thank him one more time for giving me the chance to get an interview with him. Make sure to cop Incoming Message end of summer/early fall. Check out Ran's Myspace for the updates.

Well I wasn't too into MF Doom until I heard Madvillainy. Madlib and MF Doom collaborate very nicely together. MF Doom has the most unusual style of rhyming. He uses only 2 liners, but Madlib's producing and beats really helps to make MF Doom's style softer, less crude, and flow better. Together they make one of the best, and unique, producer-emcee duos I've heard in a while. If you don't like MF Doom...I still encourage you to download this album, or better yet support Stones Throw and buy the album. I guarantee after listening to this this you will start liking MF Doom.

Thanks to the Steel Bars Crew for this!

"Rap"

Now I'm not black, but this is the truth. Today "rap" isn't what it used to be, or more over, what it SHOULD be. I feel that what I listen to, and what I am promoting on this blog, is not "rap" it is Hip Hop, a totally different genre; a genre with meaning. This video explains what today's world thinks all Hip Hop is. Lupe Fiasco, a guest on this segment, explains that "Rap" is not Hip Hop. "Rap" is the executive version of Hip Hop, the version that speaks only of money, cars, rims, women, sex, and drugs. That is what sells, and that is why Hip Hop is deplored by so many. Watch this video and you'll see what I am talking about.

This post is for those who are so closed minded, and think that Hip Hop is Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Jim Jones, etc. THAT my friends, is not Hip Hop. If you have any thoughts on this, I'd like to her them, just drop a comment on this post, or drop them in the chat box.

"Where you at? c'mon where you at? This is the different between emceeing and rap, Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal, Emcees spit rhymes to uplift their people, peace, love, unity, having fun, these are the lyrics of KRS-One!"

-KRS-One

Lupes Thoughts on Nas' Untitled

Well, we've all heard other peoples theories and opinions about Nas' new album, but let's see what a seasoned artist such as Lupe the Fiasco thinks of it. He should know what hes talking about since he's part of the industry and all. Its a bit of a read...and I think Lupe needs to go back to school for some writing lessons, but its all good.

16. AZ, Supreme NTM, Nas & Pharoahe Monch - Behind Closed Doors
17. Mos Def - Travelin’ Man feat. T.Money Green

So here's a free album, created by a guy named Omer Saar. Basically it's just an album full of remixes. According to Omer Saar:
"It’s a full-length Hip-Hop remix album over all Al Green sample-made beats. It will be the first official music project I have shared with the world. I truly love it and I want to share it with as many people as possible."
I got this from Heaps over at musical schizophrenia, and I really like it, Omer did a masterful job of syncing the right Al Green music with each individual artist. Traveling Man is the best track in my opinion. If your feelin' this album, share it.

How an album gets leaked

Just some fun facts to keep you busy. Click the picture to enlarge.

The disappearing pencil trick by the amazing joker (may contain spoilers)

One of the best parts in the movie!

Just keep an eye out like aye aye captain!

In light of Madvillainy 2, I decided to Re-up this vid.

Madvillain - Accordion

Madvillain strikes again

So I know Madvillainy is a hip hop classic, and that's why I'm posting this. I'm pretty excited to see MF Doom and Madlib coming together again. Madvillainy 2: The Box....is well....a box. But not JUST a box, a box with all types of goodies for the excited Madvillain fan, such as:

*Madvillainy “2” The Madlib Remix. 25 tracks. Read more below.
*“One Beer (Drunk Version)” Madlib’s original 2004 version, lost until recently on the floor of his Bomb Shelter studio. If you saw the studio you’d understand.
*The Madvillainy Demo Tape. 12 tracks, 36 minutes. This is the first and only official release of the infamous Madvillain demo that “leaked into cyberspace,” while the album was still in progress, as DOOM alludes to in the lyrics of “Rhinestone Cowboy.”
*Nominated. Best Rolled L’s. Madvillain shirt.
*Meanwhile… the continuation of the All Caps video, included with the CD.
*The Box. 12×13x3 inches. Wrapped in silver like a mask.

All that for the low low low price of $124.99! haha.

You can pre-order that here.

or you can just get the digital album here for $9.99.

Everyones favorite rapper!

So everyone's favorite rapper (Talib Kweli) is having a documentary made about him. Cant wait to see what this classic artist is all about. I don't know anyone who didn't love the Black Star album. And apparently this project was started in 1999, and is just now almost finished.

Its Just Another Day man...

Blu - Just Another Day

I might be a couple months late on this but, here's a track that didn't quite make it into Below The Heavens.

"Abracadabra the crowd went def..."

I like my music to be Diverse

Diverse - One A.M.

1. "Certified"
2. "Uprock"
3. "Big Game"
4. "Ain't Right"
5. "Jus Biz"
6. "Blindman"
7. "Explosive"
8. "Under The Hammer"
9. "Flyin' (747)"
10. Prefuse 73's "Amberglis"
11. "Leaving"
12. "In Accordance"

You might not have heard of Diverse before, and if you have, then I applaud your knowledge. This cat is signed to Chocolate Industries along with artists such as The Cool Kids, Lady Sovereign, and Vast Aire. One A.M. is a jazzy, soulful production, cast with thoughtful lyrics. Diverse is has his own style of rhyming, and it sounds good to me. This is a very satisfying download, and I encourage you to add some diversity to your hip hop collection.

Get It!

Finally!

Finally some one has knocked Lil Wayne out of his number 1 spot on the billboards. Personally I cant stand Wayne, he swears hes the greatest rapper alive; haha definitely not. Finally some one who knows how to rhyme, and deserves the spot gets it. I love Nas, hes one of my favorite artists, and I consider him a legend, the pioneer of Hip Hop. Nas' album Untitled sold 187,000 copies the first week in the United States alone. His prior album Hip Hop Is Dead, sold 354,000 over the Christmas week. In my opinion Hip Hop Is Dead was better than Untitled, but I'm just glad Nas has the throne.

From A to Z

AZ is probably one of the best lyricists out there. His albums Doe or Die and A.W.O.L. are two of my favorite albums. Nothing has really come from him lately except for his newest drop Undeniable which I haven't looked into yet. Hes coming out with a mixtape (which I will surely post) soon called N.4.L. and here's one of the tracks that have leaked, there's a couple more but I think this one is the best out of them.
