Also be sure to check his blog! Look out for his album called Center Of Attention.

11. While You Were Sleeping
12. Progress
13. Lets Get Up (ft. Tree woodz)
14. Ps (Note to Self)

Remember
those 2 brothers from Vegas I told you about? They're back with another amazing self-production entitled While You Were Sleeping. Canto I is not known to anyone...only a few heads have been actually graced with their music, and I am here to give you the opportunity to culture yourself haha. Their music is defined simply as "headphone music". This album is very insightful in many ways, as Canto I speaks on life, the music industry, etc. Canto I comes with their usual head bobbing boom-bap beats, and their extreme lyrical capacity. One thing that surprised me was their use of the concept track. In the song I Do Still Love H.E.R. they tackle the classic concept of using a metaphorical woman to describe their love for Hip Hop as in Common's I Used to Love H.E.R. In Death Connection they play around with the concept of addiction and the evils of drugs by describing a relationship between the dealer and the addict. They also use the same concept in The Flats, except the addiction is to gambling. Good stuff. I highly recommend this album, but the thing is I'm not giving you a download link because of their unpopularity. You're going to have to buy this album. Sorry guys. These guys really deserve the support for all their hard work, plus the CD is only $9.99 and it comes with some cool art work and what not. You can preview most of the tracks after the jump to decide whether you'll buy it or not.

What wrong with Elevator Music

Sene - Elevator Music (A Collection of Rejected Excellence)

[See track listing above]

I've had Sene in my archives for a while, but I never really listened to him. I think I'll start now haha. Here's what Sene has to say about this free compilation...

A Collection of Rejected Excellence is a series (CORE SERIES) the homie Blu started with his release of “Lifted.” This release “Elevator Music” follows suit as a group of songs without the fast food traits of a mixtape. This is just a collection of music I’ve made and liked..Songs from scattered releases and imports. Blended together. Check it out and hopefully yall enjoy; maybe get to know me a little better… - Sene

Of the lyric ‘Let’s go crazy/ You saw Purple Rain’ Illa J explains: “It’s like Prince asking ‘Are we gonna let the elevator break us down?’ Naw, let’s go all out! One of the things I learned from my brother is that you don’t get that much time, so make the most of it. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my life to doing what I love: music." - Illa J

"Hit 'em like comic books, kaboom pow pow"

Since there's been a Hip Hop drought lately, I think I'll fill you guys in on my interpretation of this Kid named Cudi. So I've been listening to Kid Cudi non-stop lately. I don't know what it is about this cat, but the music that he makes is so different, it's like a vacation from the norm. I can't really explain his music, It's so catchy that you can't stop listening to him. According to his website, his music "fuses alternative rock, hip hop and occasionally R & B, to form feel good and emotionally conscious records." Now I'm not saying that he's the best lyricist I've heard this year (that has to go to Jay Electronica, sorry Cudi) but his music does have this sort of hypnotic quality. I can guarantee you that you will find yourself singing along after a couple of listens, I know this from experience haha. If you don't believe me check out his myspace, and download his mixtape. I believe that Kid Cudi, along with, Jay Electronica, The Cool Kids, Wale, and a few other up and coming artists are going to provide a new and different dynamic for Hip Hop. Look out for this cat in the future, he's going to be big.

Feel free to leave me comments on what you think about him, or this post.

19. Victory (Bonus)
20. "city Lights" (Reprise) (Bonus)

Ahhh, Nicolay....Nicolay....where do I start? I'd like to start out by saying that Nicolay is one of the best Dutch artists out there, along with Arts The Beatsdoctor, Skiggy Rapz, Pete Philly, and Perquisite. This is the type of music you listen to on a rainy night while driving through the city. If you can't imagine how great that would sound, then you need to get this and try it for yourself. That pretty much describes this entire instrumental album, chill beats created for your listening pleasure.

S.L.U.

Here's the newest track that leaked off Jay-Z's newest project with Kanye. S.L.U. (Swagger Like Us). The sample comes from a M.I.A. song. As much as I hate Lil Wayne...sigh...I still have to post this. I mean it's got Jay-Z, Kanye and T.I. (one of the few mainstream southern artists I like, along with Outkast and Ludacris) . Although I do have to say I hate that voice thing that Kanye and Lil Wayne have taken on from T-Pain...who I also dislike very much haha.

The Fall of Rome

I knew this would come one day. What's successful emcee without his own clothing line haha. Lupe the Fiasco is coming out with his own called "Fall of Rome". It's bound to be pretty expensive so brace yourself when you see the prices but for now here's what we know about the line so far...
Colorful rapper Lupe Fiasco is set to go all-black to launch a new fashion line. All items in the rapper’s upcoming Fall of Rome catalogue will be black - and that’s all the hitmaker will wear once the line hits the market later this year (08). He says, “When your game is to sell clothes and for people to believe in you your brand and to push your brand, you keep your game fare on.” And Fiasco, real name Wasalu Jaco, tells Complex magazine his new fashion line even has an historical origin: “The logo for it is this broken statue that was pushed down when Rome was invaded; it represents the decay of beauty. I give my clothing a story. I create a purpose for it.”

Wow...I can't believe I've never heard of this guy Choice37. This album is great, it's everything that I love in an album, plus more. It's got jazzy chill beats, ill lyrics from Choice (as well as the guest emcees), and great production. Thanks to Heaps at Musical Schizophrenia for enlightening me. I just downloaded it, and I'm already posting it, that's pretty rare. I only do that with albums that deserve it, and this one really deserves to promotion. I dont know much about this guy Choice37, except that his album is an instant classic! And that he's from a group called The Longevity Crew (I'll be checking them out too). His music is very similar to that of Surreal, Lightheaded, and etc; VERY jazzy in its content. It's very refreshing to hear something this good. Download it, you wont be dissapointed.

School of Hip Hops [Foreign Exchange] program

Foreign Exchange - Connected

1. Foreign Exchange Title Theme
2. Von Sees
3. Raw Life
4. Hustle, Hustle
5. Let's Move (Feat. Big Pooh)
6. Nic's Groove (Feat. Big Pooh)
7. Be Alright (Feat. Median)
8. Sincere
9. Brave New World
10. The Answer (Feat. Kenn Starr, Oddisee & Sean Boog)
11. Come Around
12. Happiness (Feat. Big Pooh)
13. Foreign Exchange End Theme
14. All That You Are (Feat. Median)
15. Be Alright (Nicolay's Easybreezy Sunday Afternoon Remix)
16. Call
17. Downtime (Nicky Troutman's Bounce To The Ounce Remix)

I just dug this one outta the crates after a long time of having it collect dust, and now it's time for the review. Foreign Exchange is a collaboration between Phonte (of Little Brother) and a producer hailing from the Netherlands called Nicolay, hence the duo's name Foreign Exchange. This album is another chill out classic (Best of section here we come!). Nicolay lays down some laid back beats for Phonte to do his thing over, and Phonte comes correct on every beat. Phonte speaks on many different things, including happiness, and love; very down to earth lyrics which can be easily related to. The production of the album is very soulful, you can taste the passion put into it. Nicolay's production is quite simple, it doesn't have many samples in it, it consists more of vocals in the backdrop, heavy bass, drums, and snares, all wrapped up into a relatively slow tempo. To me this album is ideal for nighttime listening. I highly recommend this. Don't sleep on it like I did.

Get It!

*A special thanks to my brother for encouraging me to listen to this album.*
